CAMERA ART ON ARCHIVAL PAPER
I have known Ashok now for more than five years.
An objective yet sensitive person with a zeal for the contemporary plastic expression.
Not very loud nonetheless, almost subtle. We can feel his individuality in one of his poems written five years ago.
The art of Ashok Gulati demands and rightfully deserves a serious observation.
For a casual eyemight miss the potentialities standing next door to unfold.
In the last couple of years, he has possed himself with challanges of colour and composition.
The universe has always been a source of wonder to him and through his masterful strokes of colour, he explores the enigmatic and transcendent nature of the universe.
Fusing Indian and Western aesthetics, artist Ashok Gulati aims to redefine modern art by an amalgamation of abstraction and nature.
The strength of his compositions lies in the dynamic relationship of form to the formless space around. Individual forms submerge into the compositional space, which is a testimony to the artist’s aesthetic and compositional sophistication. The forms, balanced among each other rhythmically, build a sense of movement. Of course, the visual symphony that he creates is not a mere interplay of forms. It’s full of life!
Man descended on earth as one of the million species but emerged as monarch of this Planet through his faculty of civilisation evolved over the centuries. The urge for expression in him was necessitated to ward off loneliness, and to discover the duality of his perspective individual ‘self’. Thus art became an important vehicle for man to channelise his feeling, emotions, ideas and thoughts. The joy of creative act further encouraged him to share the pleasure of his visual manifestations inspired by his contemplative encounters with life and nature around with his fellow-beings on this planet earth.
